Dr. Kenneth Reed

After completing college at the University of Arizona, Dr. Reed attended dental school at theOregon Health Sciences University (OHSU) School of Dentistry in Portland, Oregon, earning the DMD degree.  After completing dental school, Dr. Reed remained at OHSU where he received advanced training in anesthesia and also completed a residency in periodontology and completed a CODA approved dental anesthesia residency at Lutheran Medical Center based in Brooklyn, NY.

Dr. Reed then returned to Tucson, Arizona to practice periodontics and did so for over a decade.  In 1998 Dr. Reed also began to provide anesthesia services to other dentists in the state of Arizona and continues to do so on a part-time basis today.

Dr. Reed is on faculty at one teaching hospital, one teaching surgery center and four different dental schools.  Most of his time is devoted to teaching residents through Lutheran Medical Center based in Brooklyn, NY.  There he is the Associate Program Director of the Dental Anesthesia residency and also serves as an Attending in Anesthesiology in the Dental Anesthesiology, Advanced Education in General Dentistry, Graduate Pediatric and Periodontal Residencies.

Dr. Reed also teaches extensively at Solis Surgical Arts Center in Tarzana (Los Angeles) CA.

Dr. Reed is a Clinical Assistant Professor, in the department of Endodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Orthodontics at the Ostrow School of Dentistry of the University of Southern California and an Associate Professor in Residence at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine and an Affiliate Assistant Professor in the department of Restorative Dentistry at The Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry.  Rounding out the international flavour, Dr. Reed also serves as a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Dentistry on the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Dr. Reed is President Elect of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology (ADSA) and holds Fellowships in both the ADSA and Academy of General Dentistry (AGD).  Dr. Reed is a Diplomate of the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology and is Board Eligible for the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology.  His involvement in the ADSA continues as the Assistant Editor of Anesthesia Progress as well as serving on the Editorial Review Board of that journal.  Dr. Reed is a journal reviewer for General Dentistry, the journal of the AGD and Special Care in Dentistry, the journal of the Special Care Dentistry Association and the Journal of the American Dental Association (JADA).

Dr Reed chairs the American Dental Association’s Standards Committee Working Group 4.32 on Syringes, Cartridges and Needles.  He is also a Fellow of the American College of Dentists (ACD).

As an author, Dr. Reed has published five textbook chapters in Sedation: A Guide to Patient Management.  Two chapters were in the 4th ed.  The first was entitled “The Physically Compromised Patient” and the second, “Neurologic Illnesses and Other Conditions.”  Three chapters were in the 5th edition of the same text, “The Physically Compromised Patient,” “Neurologic Illnesses and Other Conditions” and “The Geriatric Patient.”  

Dr. Reed partnered with Dr. Okundaye to author two additional textbook chapters, Working with a Dentist Anesthesiologist and Management of Emergencies Associated with Sedation, both inBehavior Management in Dentistry for Children.  He has further contributed to the professional literature by publishing numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals.

In what little free time he has, Dr. Reed enjoys being a flight instructor holding Advanced Ground Instructor, Flight Instructor, Instrument Flight Instructor and Multi-Engine Flight Instructor Certificates issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).  He is also pursuing the Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) rating, having recently completed the written portion of that exam.
