Richard graduated from the University of Sydney in 1977, where he later obtained the degree of Master of Dental Surgery. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, College of Dental Surgeons of Hong Kong (Prosthodontics), Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (Dental Surgery), Pierre Fauchard Academy and the International College of Dentists.
He has completed surgical and prosthodontic training programs at the University of Sydney, the Branemark Centre in Perth and the Branemark Clinic in Gothenburg, Sweden . He has published in international and Australian journals and has lectured extensively on restorative and implant dentistry in Australia, New Zealand and South-east Asia . He has been involved in undergraduate and post-graduate teaching since 1979 and is currently Adjunct Associate Professor and co-ordinator for several implant training courses for Continuing Education in Dentistry as well as the Graduate Diploma in Oral Implants at the University of Sydney from 1999 to 2007.
Richard was a past President of the Australasian Osseointegration Society (NSW) Inc. and is in private practice in Sydney limited to implant surgery and prosthodontics.
