Description

This training session is ideal for professionals who would like information on brief intervention and supporting smokers to quit. These sessions will provide participants with information on:

  • Understanding addiction and identifying the client’s smoking behaviour.
  • The health effects of smoking and its impact in the mouth.
  • Engaging clients in the smoking conversation in 3 – 5 minutes (brief intervention) as part of routine care.
  • How to provide clients with valuable quitting tips and strategies.
  • The use of pharmacotherapy and recommendations for its proper usage.
  • Support services available to refer patients for additional information and support .

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Identify their client’s smoking behaviour, including their dependency to nicotine, their triggers to smoke and their readiness to change.
  • Recognise the impact of smoking in the mouth.
  • Be able to put in practice the ‘5As’, an international framework for helping smoker to quit in as little as 3 – 5 minutes.
